SHOW & TELL: Something that rolls and stacks

Spelling: Grade 2: 4/30: must, because, does, part, even, trust, rust, just, dust, smart, tart, eleven 5/6: place, well, such, here, take, placement, trace, lunch, church, hear, flake, taking 5/14: right, think, around, look, also, night, sight, fright, blink, wink, sound, found The last two weeks of May we will be working on review words. There will be a 50 word final test before the end of the year.

Grandparent Interview: I’m enclosing an interview I’d like the children to do with a grandparent or an elderly friend if a grandparent is not available. A phone interview will be fine if grandparents live far away. The interview should be returned by May 10.
Family Tree: The students will also be making a family tree. Please help them fill out that paper also. That information should be returned on May 10 as well. Thank you!
Baby Geese: Last Thursday we walked to the river to see the baby geese. It was a lovely day and good exercise for the children.
Teacher’s In-service: Friday, May 7, there will be no school. The teachers will be attending a local professional enrichment seminar.
Track & Field Day: Wednesday, May 12, is our scheduled track & field day at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco. More details will be coming, but some of you like to know about such events ahead of time so this is your early notice.
Hanford Health & Safety Expo: I’m planning to take the students to the Health & Safety Expo on Tuesday morning, May 18. I will need parents to go with us. If you are available let me know! More details to come after I check on the availability of the public bus.
Last Day of School: Friday, June 4. At staff meeting on Tuesday evening we finally established that we will have 180 days by Friday, June 4 and will not have to come to school on Monday, June 7. Thankfully we only missed one day of school because of snow and that day was built into the calendar. It just makes sense to end the year on a Friday rather than coming back for a half day on Monday! There will be clean-up in the classroom on that Friday as well as fun ASB games.

TCJA Constituency Meeting: Twelve of you responded with a “yes” that your student could participate in the Monday evening, April 26 constituency meeting. The students should be here by 6:55 so we can line up and be ready to perform at 7:00 PM. We’re going to sing our two scripture chapters—Psalm 91 and I Corinthians 13 as well as saying the Jonah poem.
Happy Birthday: Tyler will turn 7 on April 24! Have a very special birthday.

Sand Artist: The students were really interested in watching a YouTube clip of a Ukrainian young lady doing sand art. Some of them wanted me to share the address with you. Here it is: http://www.theworld.org/2009/09/25/kseniya-simonova/ It’s worth your time to watch!
P.E. Shoes: If your child wears sandals or flip flops to school, please remember to send tennis shoes for PE/recess time. I’d prefer they kept the flip flops for hot summer days rather than school wear.

Visitation Day: We had 29 students in our classroom on Monday morning, April 5. We had a busy day. There were 12 visitors.
Community Service: The students did a good job of picking up rocks on Tuesday. We have a couple of good piles to show for our effort in the wind. When the dust started blowing, we quit!
Student led Week of Prayer: The week of April 19 thru 23 will be out student led Week of Prayer. The 1st & 2nd grade class will be in charge on Tuesday, April 20. If you have time you might want to stay and listen. The children will be singing their two scripture chapters—Psalm 91 and I Corinthians 13 as well as giving the Jonah poem, leading general singing, having opening and closing prayer.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Thank you for making your scheduled conference. It’s always good to discuss children’s academic and emotional progress.
Reading Calendars: Wyatt, Courtland, Sasha, Rivers, Sun-Yu, Artie, Caleb, Tyler and Taylor met or exceeded their reading goal for March! Thank Pizza Hut for continuing the reading incentive when you go in for your last pizza!
Monday, April 11: Mrs. O will be my substitute on Monday, April 11. I have family issues to attend to on that day so will be taking a personal day. Mrs. O always does a great job with the children.
